Flexible learning & courses

Flexible learning is a study option available for those who cannot attend full-time classes due to work, location difficulties or family commitments.

What is flexible learning?

Flexible learning is a great alternative to full-time, classroom learning if you are working, raising a family, or unable to travel far from home. It enables you to access courses from different locations and at times that are suitable to your lifestyle.

Motivated, self-disciplined, committed and active learners will benefit from flexible learning, however, it is a different way of studying from what most people are used to, allowing you to study from home in your own time. Learn about some of the characteristics of successful flexible learners.

Flexible Learning allows you to:

  • enrol in an individual study program any time throughout the year
  • enrol in one or more subjects, or in a whole course
  • manage your own learning program, progress at your own rate and negotiate when you are ready for assessment
  • study part-time or full-time depending on their home or work commitments
  • study at home or use the facilities available at the campus.

On course completion, you'll have access to:

  • pathways to higher education
  • possible exemption/entry in tertiary education.

What courses are available through Flexible Learning?

We have a full range of different courses under almost all of our disciplines that have Flexible Study options. We encourage you to browse through and find a course which suits you.

What support will I get with my Flexible Learning studies?

Depending on your program, your teacher will:

  • help you identify and set goals
  • help you to develop skills in time management, research and new learning technologies
  • provide weekly support on specific subject content
  • monitor your progress (you may need to negotiate meeting times every two to four weeks)
  • address issues such as motivation and study difficulties
  • help you to consider any personal issues that may be interfering with your study
  • keep copies of your learning plan and record notes from any contacts you may have
  • organise and grade assessments and discuss outcomes of assessments with you

To find out whether the course you are interested in is available through Flexible Learning, phone 13 TAFE (138233) or send email to our Contact Centre.
