What costs and other fees should I expect?
Call us on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or 9279 2222 for a fee schedule. There will be extra costs for reference books of approximately $500. A detailed booklist will be made available when you enrol in this course.
Can I apply?
There are no entry requirements for this course. However, it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course. You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course; or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months).
How long is the course?
The course would normally be completed in six months, but may be completed in a shorter time depending on the nature and extent of your previous formal studies, work and life experience.
Where and how can I study?
This course will operate from the Broadmeadows campus and can be undertaken in a traditional, face-to-face learning mode, with some units delivered in our online environment. As an alternative to attending formal classes you may wish to study more flexibly, attending some classes/workshops, or perhaps study entirely from home (in a distance learning mode). Classes are available during weekdays, evenings, and students may enrol as either part-time or full-time.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course meets the academic requirements for registration with the Tax Practitioners Board as a BAS service provider and may provide opportunities that require bookkeeping or accounting skills in large or small organisations.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills in accounting procedures enabling you to obtain employment in bookkeeping or accounting related areas under the supervision of an accountant.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate IV in Accounting. This program is nationally recognised as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Having successfully completed the Certificate IV in Accounting, further studies are available in the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Accounting. A completed Advanced Diploma of Accounting will enable direct entry into the IPA Master of Commerce in Professional Accounting program offering both a Master's Degree and full membership of the IPA. Your Advanced Diploma can also give you significant credits towards your studies in accounting (or other business-related disciplines) in a Bachelor's Degree at university.

How will I be selected for this course?
VTAC selection is based on the ATAR score where applicable. All applicants will need to attend an interview and enrolment session, bringing with them evidence of their citizenship (or residency) status and (if under 20 years of age at 1 January, 2013) proof of age in order to enrol in the course.You may also be required to sit a literacy and numeracy test to determine the level of support required (if any) having enrolled in this course.
