Established in 1996, the Security and Public Safety Training Centre meets the needs of individuals wishing to enter the security industry or upgrade their skills, and organisations seeking customised training programs.
The Security and Public Safety Training Centre is located in Kangan Batman TAFE's Aerospace Industry Training Centre (AITC) at the Broadmeadows campus.

Development of Training Resources
The Security & Public Safety Training Centre has developed a complete set of training resources for students and trainers for the Certificate II in Security (Guarding) - PRS20198. These materials can be purchased from the Kangan Batman TAFE Bookshop by contacting (03) 9279 2423.

Kangan Batman TAFE's Security & Public Safety Training Centre has strategic alliances with the following organisations.
Australian Protective Service (APS)
The Australian Protective Service (APS) is Kangan Batman TAFE's strategic partner in the provision of international standard security training to the aviation industry.
The APS is the Australian Government's specialist protective security law enforcement agency providing Counter Terrorist First Response at Australia's major airports.
The strategic alliance utilises the training skills and programs of both Kangan Batman TAFE and the APS.
Our highly qualified trainers use world class equipment and the computerised Safe Passage program to deliver X-Ray Interpretation and Screening courses conducted in Melbourne at Kangan Batman TAFE and in Canberra by APS.
A wide range of training programs are available to meet individual and industry requirements at a time when greater vigilance in security and quality-trained operators are essential.
For over ten years the APS and Kangan Batman TAFE have maintained a reputation for high quality, effective and practical training to protect the property and personnel of many organisations. Both organisations are widely-respected for the practicality and thoroughness of their training and the level of expertise of their instructors.
One of the aviation security courses offered is our three-day course in X-Ray Screening and Interpretation (special application to Aviation Screening PRSSG10A). This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to operate security X-ray equipment and interpret X-ray imagery to detect prohibited and/or hazardous items. The training program employs the Safe Passage software with access to walk-through and hand-held screening devices, all of which are used to train and assess the participants.
Recurrent training and assessment is now a legislative requirement and all aircraft baggage screeners must comply. Kangan Batman TAFE and the APS deliver this course as an essential component of this most timely strategic alliance.
Emergency Management Australia
Emergency Management Australia (EMA) is the Australian Government authority which promotes a national approach to emergency management. The approach embraces prevention, preparedness, response and recovery activities and EMA works closely with a wide range of Australian authorities at Commonwealth, state, territory and local government level, as well as industry bodies.
EMA also maintains close links with similar agencies responsible for the day-to-day management of the coordination throughout the world. EMA is also an agent for the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and has a significant relationship with the countries of the South Pacific region.
Working with EMA, Kangan Batman TAFE delivers public safety education and training focusing on emergency management, and crime prevention through environmental design.
