Welding at Kangan Batman TAFE

Kangan Batman TAFE offers more than 34 different welding modules. You can choose to enrol for just one module, or to progress to WTIA and CASA certification.

Most of our welding instructors are from the aviation industry and offer an up-to-date insight into the world of welding alloys and steels. Along with our state-of-the-art welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Oxy), you will find our 'hands-on approach' to welding training refreshing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is each welding module?

The usual cost for a 40-hour welding module is $50.00 plus a $25 student administration fee. Students will also be required to purchase a student workbook. See welding textbook list for prices.

I am unemployed. Can I undertake welding training?

Yes, subject to Centrelink approval. You may even qualify for subsidised training.

When are classes held?

Day and evening classes are conducted throughout the year. Weekend classes may also be available, subject to sufficient numbers.

What are the class times?

Day classes are held from 8.30am to 5pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and night classes are held from 5.30pm to 8.30pm Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs.

What do I have to bring to class?

Full cotton overalls (long-sleeved), safety shoes or boots and a workbook.

Do I have to enrol in an entire module stream or can I just enrol in one module?

You can enrol for as few or as many modules as you wish. You can choose the modules which suit your particular needs.

Will I receive a certificate when I complete my module?

You will receive a statement of results at the end of each year for each of the modules you have completed. You will receive a certificate from Kangan Batman TAFE if you complete all of the modules in stage one.

If you wish to obtain a Welding Technology Institute of Australia (WTIA) welding certificate, you must complete a full module stream and you must comply with WTIA certification requirements.

WTIA Welding Certification Requirements

To sit for the Welding Technology Institute of Australia (WTIA) welding certificate, you must have one of the following:

WTIA welding certification will allow the welder to meet the requirements of statutory authorities and industry demands for a prescribed degree of quality assurance. It is carried out in accordance with Australian Standard 1796 which is related to the welding of boilers and pressure vessels. This is also applicable to a wide range of welding applications.

CASA Aircraft Welding Authority

Kangan Batman TAFE offers a comprehensive aircraft welding training package.

Kangan Batman TAFE also has the authority to conduct aircraft welding examinations. We can conduct unrestricted examinations, restricted and even joint specific-only approvals.

The prerequisite for eligibility is the WTIA Number 7 Certificate or equivalent. This is a mandatory requirement.
