Apprenticeships and traineeships
Apprenticeships and Traineeships give you a way to earn while you learn skills for the job. At the same time, you do training with training organisations like Kangan Batman TAFE. Sometimes all of your training will be done at your workplace.
Apprenticeships and Traineeships are now offered in more than 500 occupations. They are available in areas from multimedia and IT to sport and recreation, retail, tourism, engineering, automotive, building and construction and many more.

Pre-apprenticeships
A pre-apprenticeship course may help you decide whether you want to take on an apprenticeship. Pre-apprenticeships are courses that run for about a semester. Many employers recruit apprentices from pre-apprenticeship courses, so doing one may help you find a job. In many courses, you also do Work Experience to give you better employment opportunities. If you have left school without completing VCE or VCAL, a pre-apprenticeship may offer you another way into a trade. And doing a pre-apprenticeship course may even reduce the length of your apprenticeship training.
School-based Apprenticeships & Traineeships
Many apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications are now available as part time Australian School-based Apprenticeships, ASbAs. This means that while you attend school you can actually get started on your career. You no longer have to leave school to start an apprenticeship or traineeship.
There are three things you need to meet in a School-based Apprenticeshipcomplete your VCE or VCAL, complete the TAFE certificate and complete the on-the-job learning. Each can be done during school hours or after hours. ASbA's are pretty flexible and may be able to fit into your school timetable.
