Department Summary

Named after the traditional landowners of the area, the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre at Kangan Batman TAFE is recognised as a leading provider of vocational education and training to Indigenous students throughout Melbourne.

The Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre aims to empower students by merging the cultural heritage and values of the traditional landowners, with contemporary Aboriginal culture and cutting-edge learning technology.

Located in the North-Western suburbs of Melbourne, the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre offers a range of courses for Indigenous Australians.

Students learn through a combination of classroom, practical and online learning. These include art exhibitions, music festivals, community projects, and the use of multimedia resources such as toolboxes on the TAFE virtual campus (TAFEVC) and electronic learning packages. Upon completion of a course, students will receive on-going support including help finding employment in their area of study.

The Institute's Indigenous Employment and Career Development Strategy provides traineeships across the organisation for students who show dedication to learning outcomes and a commitment to finding employment.

The Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre also includes the state-of-the-art Gumbrie-Gurmil Flexible Learning Centre with nearly 30 computers.
