Information Communication Technology
Department Summary
The Information Communication Technology Department provides basic training from Certificate I through to Advanced Diploma level and short courses in IT, Multimedia, Computer Systems Engineering, Desktop Publishing and Customer Contact.
The success of our students over a number of years at state, national and international level competitions confirms that our staff are dedicated professionals and the department is held in high regard.
Advancements in the IT industry are made available to our students through products and services that include accredited and customised programs, short courses, VET in Schools, traineeships and industry training.
The department has formed an academic alliance with IBM which means Kangan Batman TAFE is the only TAFE Institute that has an IBM I Series Server to give our students a unique understanding of Server Technology. IBM products are embedded in our IT and Computer Systems programs to allow students to gain exposure to up to date technologies. Our full list of memberships and affiliations can be found here
The IT Diploma has a pathway to Latrobe University with pre-negotiated credits available and has embraced technologies to teach to students in RFID, Wireless, Network Security and the rapidly growing area of Supply Chain.
IT, Multimedia and Computer Systems Engineering, courses are offered at the Broadmeadows and Essendon. To cater for a range of students with a variety of needs, some courses are available as traineeships combining paid employment with part-time study.
Desktop Publishing is available to VET in Schools students, and Customer Contact training is available to trainees in the workplace.
The Department has regular involvement in projects in IT, Multimedia and Computer Systems Engineering, including the development and review of curriculum for the Victorian IT Training Packages; course and material development for multimedia courses, industry courses, short courses and models to suit requirements for flexible delivery.
Course Offering
The Information Communication Technology Department provides training for a variety of computer related positions.
Students can choose a general qualification including Software Applications, or specialise in Networking, Software Development, Multimedia or Computer Systems Engineering (including on and off line media) RFID, Wireless, Network Security, and there is a key theme of Supply Chain embedded in our IT Diploma.

VET in Schools

Achievements and Awards
The Department has produced winners in both State and National competitions including the Worldskills Olympics in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 in the Information Technology and Multimedia fields. Two students also went on to represent Australia at International Worldskills competitions and finished within the top 10.
