Product Design Manufacturing Challenge

Part One

On Wednesday 18th April Kangan Batman TAFE officially launched the Product Design Manufacturing Challenge.

The challenge aims to expose secondary school students to the world of Design for Manufacturing. Students will be involved in a real world experience from beginning to end.

The Idea - Sketching - 3D Modelling - Prototyping

A team of RMIT graduates will work alongside teachers and students to guide them through the design process. Students will experience each stage and will come up with an idea for a product they would like to design.

With expert advice from Industry Partners Invetech Design and ARRK Silhouette these designs will have the potential to be realised in a manufacturing environment.

As part of the project students will have an opportunity to visit Invetech Design to see how the process works commercially.

The project will end with an Exhibition of all designs and an award for the design that has the potential to be manufactured.

There will be a number of great outcomes for students who participate in the Product Design Manufacturing Challenge. They will have new career options in product design and manufacturing; Students will also have a greater understanding of design excellence as well as greater technological literacy. Teachers will receive training in the Design process and use Catia 3D Modelling Software.
