Experience+ Training at Kangan Institute

Experience+ Training program designed for workers aged 50 years and over

Kangan Institute is proud to support the Experience+ Training program designed for workers aged 50 years and over who would like to retain their knowledge and experience to supervise new apprentices or trainees in the workplace.

Experience+ Training is a Federal Government program which provides employers with funding of $4950 (includes GST) to train mature age workers in a Certificate III level or above.

Kangan Institute offers a wide range of national-accredited courses at eight campuses throughout central and northern Melbourne. Our focus on customised, flexible training solutions ensures that an employee's existing skillsets and specific learning needs are accounted for.

We have experience in customising the training specifically for the learner, making it as simple and easy as possible to achieve the desired qualification for the participant.

Training grants are paid in two instalments—a start-up payment of $3500 and a completion payment of $1450 (when the employee has completed the course).

After paying for the training, the employer may use the remaining funds to support their business through administrative expenses, skills assessments for Recognition of Prior Learning, applying for other relevant licenses or any other training activity that would benefit their employee.

This program is available to:

  • employers operating in Australia who employ a mature age worker (50 years or over) for at least 15 hours per week and who employ at least one apprentice or trainee who works at the same location/site as the mature age worker; or
  • small business owners operating in Australia who are themselves mature age workers (50 years or over) working in their own business for at least 15 hours per week and who employ at least one apprentice or trainee who works at the same location/site as they do.

Experience+ program without intention to train others

Separate to this program, the government is also offering an Experience+ program which will recognise the prior learning of employees over the age of 50. $4400 is allocated to this program which will go towards the assessment and subsequent qualification of the worker by an education provider such as Kangan Institute.
