ELICOS Program

Mayer Louka, Egypt

My name is Mayer Louka and I am an international student currently studying at Kangan Institute. My agent had advised me of the institute as I have family that live in the nearby area (Broadmeadows) that I am staying with during my studies.

My mainstream course is hospitality and before this I studied English for 10 weeks.

The English course I found to be very helpful to me before I started hospitality. I would recommend that all students study around five weeks of English before their mainstream course even if they achieve a high IELTS score. Extra teaching of English related to a student's mainstream course would be a great help to all international students.

All of the English teachers were very helpful and also extremely professional while they taught us. The staff members in the international office were very nice as well.

I found that studying English before my hospitality course helped me with my confidence in speaking English and also helped me with hospitality terminology which can sometimes be a bit hard.

I currently have a part-time job in a café and have found that my hospitality course has helped me in my work when taking instructions from my employer.

My favourite area of hospitality is desserts.

I would like to some day open my own dessert café.

I recommend Kangan Institute as a professional place to study for all international students.

'Before I began studying I had very low self esteem, but I have found the teachers at Kangan Institute to be inspirational, their confidence and belief in me helped me not to give up. My spelling and maths has improved, I can now use programs like Microsoft Word, and I can write essays!'
