Advanced Diploma of Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)

Zhuo Ping Bo, China

Zhuo Ping Bo from China studied Advanced Diploma of Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)at Kangan Institute

My first year doing this course was my first ever time in the kitchen. I have learnt so much about teamwork and how to communicate with other people. By cooking, I have also learnt about the culture here in Australia.

Kangan Institute was recommended to me by my agent in China and seems to be highly regarded as it has won awards in 2007 and 2008. It is also a different experience compared to a private school as I have had more hands-on practice.

The practical part of the course was the most enjoyable and I liked how it was very similar to the real industry and it was taught in a real kitchen. It was also great that it included a business plan so we learnt a lot going from the kitchen to business studies.

My teacher was great in the kitchen and would always explain what he was doing. He knew what he was doing and was very patient with us and would re-teach us things if we needed.

The course has been very helpful - I have worked hard and it has paid off. With the experience I have gained from TAFE and a part-time job, I would like to start my own business. Even the basic cooking skills that I have learnt I can use when I cook for my friends and family
