Fee Information

Download a listing of course tuition fees for international students.

For other financial information related to studying in Australia, see below:

Budget

It is recommended that students budget between AUD$12,000 to AUD$15,000 per year for living expenses. Living expenses are not included in tuition fees. Arriving students should bring with them approximately AUD$1,500 to cover the cost of temporary accommodation and the setting up costs of permanent accommodation.

Costs Associated with Study

Tuition fees do not cover the cost of books, equipment, stationery, uniforms or excursions. Estimated book and equipment costs are detailed on individual course listings. Students will be required to pay the AUD$50 Student Amenities Fee. This is a yearly fee.

Discounts for siblings at Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE

If you have one or more brothers or sisters enrolled in a full fee paying Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE course at the same time as you, you may be entitled to a 10% discount on your annual course fees.

If you wish to apply for the sibling discount contact the Office of International Students.

Payment of Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are payable prior to the commencement of a semester. A late fee of AUD$50 will be payable if fees are not paid by the due date. If less than one semester of ELICOS is required, the ELICOS fee and one semester’s fee of the formal course must be paid prior to the release of the confirmation of enrolment. Repeat subjects will attract a minimum additional fee of AUD$11 per student contact hour.

Work Rights

International students can apply for a variation to their visa once they have commenced their studies, which allows them to work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full- time during semester breaks. Any work undertaken must not interfere with studies or attendance. The Institute does not guarantee that students will secure work whilst studying in Australia. It is becoming increasingly difficult to secure part-time work, so students should secure their financial independence before coming to Australia. In 2002 the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) fee for this visa variation was AUD$55.

Refund Policy

1.0 All applications for refund must be on the ‘Refunds Application’ form and forwarded to:

International Students Office
Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE
Private Bag 299
Somerton Victoria 3062
Australia

2.0 Grounds for Refund
  1. inability to obtain a student visa;
  2. illness or disability;
  3. death of student or a close family member (parent, sibling, spouse, or child); or
  4. political, civil or natural event which prevents full payment of fees. The above grounds may be accepted for either a total or partial refund of fees, subject to the provision of acceptable documentary evidence in support of the application for refund. A total refund will attract a A$100 Administrative Fee.
3.0 Total Refund

3.1 - In the event that an offer of a place is withdrawn or the Institute is unable to provide the course, all course money paid is fully refundable, unless the offer was made on the basis of incorrect or incomplete information being supplied by the applicant/student in which case the Institute reserves the right to retain up to 10% of the fee for one semester.

3.2 - A student who fails to meet the course progression rules and who is thus not permitted to re-enrol will be eligible for a refund of fees if paid in advance of notification of exclusion. 3.3 A notice of withdrawal due to exceptional circumstances (see 1 above) may be accepted as grounds for a total refund of fees paid for the semester.

4.0 Partial Refunds

(NOTE: the guidelines for partial refunds apply equally to commencing students and continuing students).

4.1 - Where a student, after accepting an offer of a place, gives a minimum of 28 days written notice before the commencement date on the Confirmation of Enrolment Form, of an inability to undertake the course, all tuition fees paid for the semester are refundable less an administrative fee of 10% and any agent’s or processing fee.

4.2 - Where a student gives less than 28 days written notice before the commencement date on the Confirmation of Enrolment Form, of an inability to undertake the course, no refund of the first semesters fees is applicable, except as determined by the Director.

4.3 - If a student has paid for an ELICOS program of less than one semester and one semester formal course, no refund is applicable unless 28 days written notification is given prior to the ELICOS commencement date on the Confirmation of Enrolment Form. If 28 day written notification is received 4.1 will be applied.

4.4 - Where a student pays their tuition fees yearly in advance, and written notification is received more than 28 days prior to the commencement of the second semester a 90% refund of tuition fees is applicable less any agents or processing fees.

4.5 - Students who pay their fees on a semester by semester basis must give 28 days written notice prior to the commencement of their subsequent semester of their intention of not to continue their studies or they will be liable for that semesters tuition fees.

5.0 Exemptions

If exemptions are granted from a formal course, because of visa conditions, refunds are normally not given, international students are required to enroll in additional subjects to satisfy visa conditions. If the exemption amounts to one or more full semesters, block exemptions may be granted, thus the duration of the course and fees are reduced accordingly.

6. Students who obtain Permanent Resident Visa Status

6.1 - Where a student commences a semester as an international student and is granted Permanent Resident Visa Status during that semester, the student will be classified as an international student and will be liable to pay the tuition fees applying to international students for that semester.

6.2 - From the following semester, the student will be classified as a Permanent Resident and will therefore be liable to pay the Tuition and Service and Amenity Fee for that course. If the student has already paid the tuition fees applying for international students for this semester, a total refund of these fees is payable to the student.

7.0 Payment of Refunds
  1. Where the Institute defaults, within two weeks after the date of withdrawal the offer of a place or notification that the Institute is unable to provide the course; and
  2. Where the student defaults, within four weeks after receiving a written claim from the student.
  3. Refunds will be paid in Australian dollars, and only after proof is received of the student returning to their home country and their student visa is canceled. If transferring to another Accredited Institute, then Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE must be supplied an Acceptance Letter before the refund can be transferred.
  4. Date of notification for request for refund is from the date the request for refund is received at the Office of International Students, Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE.
8.0 Appeals Process

A student who is refused a refund under the above policy may appeal within seven (7) days in writing to the Director Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE whose decision will be final. A student is able to pursue other legal remedies outside the dispute resolution process.

This agreement does not remove the right to take further action under Australia’s consumer protection law.
