Federal Employment Minister to attend graduation ceremony for TAFE small business course

7 March 2002

The Federal Minister for Employment, the Hon. Mal Brough MP, will attend a graduation ceremony being held by Kangan Batman TAFE's Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) on Thursday 7 March 2002.

The Minister will present certificates to around 80 graduates of the centre's New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) program.

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government to assist eligible jobseekers to start their own business. The scheme includes training in small business planning and management (offered by providers such as the Kangan Batman BEC), and income support for the first year of business.

Around 200 people are expected to attend the graduation ceremony, to be held at the Moonee Valley Racecourse from 6.30 to 8pm.

The event will include refreshments and opportunities to sample the wares of around 15 fledgling small businesses which will be displaying their products or services.

The Kangan Batman TAFE Business Enterprise Centre has been delivering the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme for nine years and is part of a consortium of Business Enterprise Centres which provides the service across Melbourne and Gippsland. Kangan Batman TAFE is Melbourne's largest provider and assists around 250 new businesses a year.

For further information on the NEIS scheme or other small business training, please contact Tim Cremean, BEC Manager, on (03) 9254 3008.
