Kangan Batman TAFE staff to Shave for a Cure!

01 March 2002

On Friday 15 March, staff from Kangan Batman TAFE will take part in the World's Greatest Shave for a Cure.

Held from 14-16 March, this event is the Leukaemia Foundation's biggest annual fundraising drive in which participants shave or colour their hair to raise funds for leukaemia research and patient support.

Staff from Kangan Batman TAFE's Work for the Dole Unit will be shaving and colouring their hair before an audience of students and staff who have made donations to the cause.

As a Community Work Coordinator for the Commonwealth Government's Work for the Dole scheme, Kangan Batman TAFE coordinates projects which assist the community while providing participants with training, employable skills and work experience.

Work for the Dole Unit staff member Rick Barry will be shaving his head (for the second time, as he has participated previously while living in the US).

Other unit staff will be dyeing their hair in the Kangan Batman TAFE colours of purple and green. Meredith Dingle will dye her hair green, while Marg Bunnett and Nola Grant (Manager of Employment Services) are going purple.

Leukaemia is cancer of the bone marrow. According to the Leukaemia Foundation, in the next five years, 30,000 Australians of all ages will be diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or a related blood disease. For further information visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com (the Leukaemia Foundation website).

Kangan Batman TAFE is a multi-discipline TAFE institute with 33,000 students across six campuses in Broadmeadows, Richmond, Moreland, Coburg, Essendon and Avondale Heights.

Kangan Batman TAFE was named Training Provider of the Year in the 2001 Victorian Training Awards, and is Victoria’s major training provider for the automotive, aerospace and polymer industries.
