Transport & Logistics Centre

29 April 2002

Kangan Batman TAFE is currently building a centre of excellence for training in transport and warehousing.

The new building and Hard Drive Training area will be located at Kangan Batman TAFE's Broadmeadows campus, adjacent to its newly built Polymer Engineering Centre.

The project is worth approximately $4 million and has been funded by the Office of Training and Tertiary Education.

The centre's foundations are currently being laid, with building due for completion in September this year.

The Transport & Logistics Centre will be Victoria's state-of-the-art facility for training in transport and warehousing. The building will feature a purpose-built warehouse with areas for pallet racking, coolroom, dock loading, dangerous goods and confined space training areas. Space has been provided for the location of computer terminals, that are required for the purpose of training in typical store person duties (i.e. picking and processing orders, receiving and dispatching goods). An overhead pendant crane with a three ton SWL, will be located in the warehouse facility for the purposes of slinging loads, loading/unloading vehicles and training in safe operations.

Purpose built computer rooms and classrooms for all forms of training in transport and distribution/warehousing will be located at one end of the building. The hard drive area will allow for taxi driver training, training in motor vehicle driver instruction, all forms of heavy vehicle driver training and other forms of crane and equipment driver training. A specific training area for air and road transport of dangerous goods will also be located in the new building.
