A new partnership will be launched today by the Minister for Innovation, the Hon John Brumby, that will assist in positioning Victoria as a world-class centre of excellence in aerospace research, education and training.
The alliance, between RMIT University and Kangan Batman TAFE, is for the two leading Australian aerospace providers to work together to develop joint education and training proposals and a centre for state, national and international aerospace education and training programs and research and development services; research the education and training needs of the aerospace industry; and develop curriculum and learning resources for the aerospace industry in Australia and overseas.
RMIT University and Kangan Batman TAFE will also work to enhance flexibility in education and training for the industry through designing a wide range of programs (ranging from post-secondary, pre-vocational, para-professional, undergraduate to post-graduate studies) and integrating these programs to provide training pathways for flexible career and employment progression. The venture will be jointly managed under the registered business name of ‘Aerospace Industry Research and EducationÂ'.
“AustraliaÂ's prosperity depends on our ability to generate, develop and apply new ideas and techniques within existing industries and to create new enterprises and new industries,” said RMIT University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ruth Dunkin. “The collaboration between RMIT and Kangan Batman TAFE will contribute to the innovation agenda in Victoria through the delivery of quality education and training programs, services and products to the aerospace industry.
She added, “RMIT and Kangan Batman TAFE have shared values and a passion about making a difference. Our collaboration will lead the generation of new ideas and new ways of working in aerospace and aviation, and together we will undertake important work which will respond to the issues and needs of the aerospace industry and assist in positioning Victoria as a leading centre of excellence in aerospace engineering.”
Director of Kangan Batman TAFE, John Parish said the collaboration aims to address the skills shortage in the aerospace industry both in Australia and overseas. “RMIT and Kangan Batman TAFE can make Aerospace Industry Research and Education an extremely strong and competitive institution, offering the best aerospace training and facilities in the Southern Hemisphere,” he said.
