The Malcolm Creek Flexible Learning Centre at Craigieburn
22 July 2002
The soon-to-open Kangan Batman TAFE Flexible Learning Centre in Craigieburn will help residents of the area to tap into TAFE resources without having to leave their suburb.
The Malcolm Creek Flexible Learning Centre will offer the same benefits that other Kangan Batman Flexible Learning Centres provide to students.
Flexible learning offers students the option to study all or a few of the subjects offered through flexible-mode delivery, either at home or in one of the Flexible Learning Centres at a time and place that best suits their needs. The centres are customer-focussed and aim to promote a culture of cooperation and mutual support amongst students, teachers and support staff.
Kangan Batman TAFE Flexible Learning Centres at Broadmeadows, Essendon and Moreland campuses offer students the opportunity to access teachers, computers, the Internet and library resources all at the one location.
Kangan Batman TAFE currently has three flexible learning centres located within three of its campuses. The Malcolm Creek centre will be unique as it will not be located within one of Kangan Batman TAFEĀ's existing campuses, but will provide all the facilities flexibly.
Flexible learning students can choose to:
- enrol in an individual study program any time throughout the year
- manage their own learning program, progress at their own rate and negotiate when they are ready for assessment
- study part-time or full-time depending on their home or work commitments
- study at home or use the facilities available at the Flexible Learning Centres
A variety of TAFE accredited courses are offered and students may enrol in one or more subjects or in a complete course.
As with all successfully completed courses at Kangan Batman TAFE, on course completion students will have access to:
- pathways to higher education
- possible exemption/entry into further tertiary education
Like all the other centres, the Malcolm Creek Learning Centre will comprise around 30 computer terminals. Every PC will have current state-of-the-art multimedia technology.
A multi-skilled team of people will be available to support all students undertaking studies flexibly. The team is made up of highly skilled and dedicated individuals from across Kangan Batman TAFE. Teachers from different areas will be available on a regular basis. Once enrolled, each student will be allocated a teacher/mentor to help them identify and set study goals, as well as develop skills in time management, research and in using new learning technologies.
The centre will be open from approximately 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
