European Travel Expo at Kangan Batman TAFE

Kangan Batman TAFE is hosting a European Travel Expo at its Broadmeadows campus on Thursday 12 September, 2002.
The expo has been organised by first year students in the Certificate IV in Tourism, with support from local tourism operators.
Visitors to the expo will be able to find out everything they need to know about travelling to Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland and the Netherlands, such as the best times to visit each country, the culture, transport options, and the latest tour/holiday package information. Visitors will also be able to find out about studying tourism at Kangan Batman TAFE.
Local tourism operators have sponsored the expo by providing travel brochures and information, as well as donating the following raffle prizes:
- A return air ticket to Sydney, provided by Harvey World Travel Tullamarine
- One night's accommodation for two with breakfast, at the Hilton Hotel - Melbourne Airport
- Two AAT Day Tours, provided by STA Travel Highpoint
- Two Great Ocean Road Tours, provided by Australian Pacific Tours.
Proceeds from the raffle will assist in funding an eco study tour of the Grampians for the students, to further their understanding of eco-tourism.
According to teacher Jenny Monteiro, the travel expo is just one example of the practical nature of travel and tourism training at Kangan Batman TAFE.
"Rather than just classroom work, we try to incorporate a practical component in our training to allow students to apply their skills in real-life situations", she explains.
"Organising this expo has given the students hands-on experience in event management, arranging sponsorship, organising displays, and researching information on destinations. Another example is the fact that we have built the State Government's Tourism Student Business Initiative into our travel and tourism courses. So all of our students are required to enter the competition, by researching and developing a concept for a tourism business".
