Kangan Batman TAFE student shines in the fashion stakes

01 October 2002

Kathryn Kemp, a second year student in Kangan Batman TAFE's Diploma of Clothing Industry Studies, received the top honours in the Lectra/Fashion Group International (FGI) Awards presented on Saturday 26 October 2002.

Ms Kemp was selected for the Lectra & FGI 2002 College Award of Excellence from a field of fashion students from across Victoria. Hers was one of two major awards presented by the Melbourne branch of the Fashion Group International, along with four commendations.

The Fashion Group Foundation is an international professional association dedicated to promoting fashion educational programs through the creation and awarding of scholarships, establishment of internship programs and the provision of career counselling services.

Kathryn was presented with a certificate acknowledging her excellence, free student membership of the FGI Melbourne for 2003, $1000 prize money and a 12 month mentoring program commencing in 2003.

The FGI Melbourne has long believed in promoting a strong Victorian fashion industry through the support of up-and-coming enthusiastic talent. To this end, the inaugural College Award of Excellence recognises initiative, drive, aptitude and passion, displayed on a continuing basis by students who also have shown outstanding skill and expertise in specific areas.

The selected students must display a willingness and dedication to act forthright and positively, as future integral components of the Australian fashion industry.
