Kangan Batman TAFE won the Outstanding Training Award in this year’s national Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence.

The awards were presented by the Australian Security Industry Association Ltd (ASIAL) in Sydney on 10 July as part of their annual national conference, Security 2003 Conference and Exhibition.

At a Gala Awards Dinner attended by 800 security industry leaders, Kangan Batman TAFE’s Security and Public Safety Training Centre received the Outstanding Training Award as joint winners with an organisation which provides security training to NSW rail transit officers.

“Kangan Batman TAFE is one of the few Australian TAFE institutes to establish a specific security training department. In most other providers, security training is just an arm of a larger department. This is evidence of our dedication to serving the security industry,” explained Security & Public Safety Training Manager, Andrew Hamilton.

Since its establishment in 1996, the Security & Public Safety Training Centre has grown from offering just two security guard courses into a nationally-renowned training provider offering programs covering all areas of the security industry, including specialist areas such as bomb detection, fraud investigation and aviation security.

The centre’s training, consultancy and curriculum development services are in demand from organisations Australia-wide and overseas, and it has established long-term strategic alliances with Emergency Management Australia (EMA) and Australian Protective Service (APS) for the delivery of programs nationally.

Formed in 1969, the Australian Security Industry Association Ltd (ASIAL) is a national association and self-regulatory body for the Australian security industry.
