Time to discover the benefits of adult learning

18 August 2003

Kangan Batman TAFE will join neighbourhood houses, community centres, the Centre for Adult Education (CAE), Adult Multicultural Education Services (AMES) and other organisations in celebrating Adult Learners’ Week 2003.

Held from September 1-7, Adult Learners’ Week aims to promote the range of learning opportunities available to adults of all ages, abilities, interests and backgrounds, with “it’s never too late to learn” being the underlying message of the week.

On Wednesday 3 September from 7pm to 8.30pm, Kangan Batman TAFE will host a free Return to Study Info Session, which offers local adults the chance to discover everything they need to know about returning to study.

The evening’s activities will include advice on topics such as how to apply for courses, what TAFE is like, and the support services available. There will also be the opportunity to hear from guest speakers who have successfully returned to study, and chat with the TAFE’s career/course counsellors while enjoying a light supper.

Kangan Batman TAFE Director, John Parish, is urging local adults to attend the information session and discover how their lives can be improved through education and training opportunities in local community settings.

“Adult Learners’ Week is the ideal opportunity to let people know that age or previous educational experiences are no barrier to the learning opportunities available through Adult and Community Education,” he said.

“As well as providing options to improve employment or educational opportunities, Adult and Community Education also helps adults to forge stronger links with their local community, make new friends and boost self-esteem.

“From business, literacy and IT courses, to gardening and yoga, Adult and Community Education can pave the way to significant personal and professional development,” said Mr Parish.
