Trevor Sheahan.

Trevor Sheahan, from Broadmeadows, is a young student of Kangan Batman TAFE’s Polymer Engineering Centre and has been awarded the 2003 Roger Pysden Memorial Fellowship by Australian Business Ltd.

The purpose of the national fellowship program is to provide an opportunity for a manufacturing sector employee to undertake overseas studies or investigations that will benefit the competitiveness of Australian manufacturing. The fellowship provides $6000 towards the cost of the overseas travel.

Trevor, who is a Trainee Injection Moulding Technician at Sneddon & Kingston Plastics Pty Ltd, said: “I’m over the moon, I can’t believe that my job has given me the chance to travel around the world and learn about the very latest developments in plastics materials and processing methods. I have loved every minute of working in plastics, but this is the icing on the cake.”

Trevor’s fellowship will take him to Japan, Germany, Britain, Canada and the United States of America. “Not only will I get to see emerging technologies first hand and visit the world’s biggest plastics exhibition, I will also get to visit factories that are at the very leading edge of manufacturing excellence,” he said. Upon his return to Australia, Trevor will share his newly found knowledge with the industry through technical seminars and articles in industry journals.

“I am very grateful to Australian Business Ltd for this honour” Trevor said. “I have heaps of people to thank for supporting my application and I will be thanking them all personally as soon as my feet hit the ground,” says Trevor.

The fellowship is a perpetual memorial to Roger Pysden who was a strong advocate of the need for Australian manufacturers to learn form the practices and innovation of national and international industry leaders, he also served as President of Australian Business Ltd from 1992 to 1994.

This is the latest in a long stream of achievements for the Broadmeadows youngster who has also won:

Trevor was also a semi-finalist in the State Training Awards in 2002

Trevor will formally receive his award at the Australian Business Ltd Annual Dinner in Sydney on 24 October.
