The Senator, the Hon. Judith Troeth opens the Kangan Batman TAFE's new Transport and Logistics Centre.
On Wednesday, 12 November 2003, Senator the Hon. Judith Troeth officially opened the new hub of the transport and logistics industry – Kangan Batman TAFE’s new purpose-built Transport and Logistics Centre at its Broadmeadows campus.
The Hon. Jenny Mikakos MP, Member of Upper House for the Jika Jika Province also attended the opening ceremony.
This state-of-the-art $3.8 million training facility was built with funding from the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). The centre will support the Victorian Government’s vision for Victoria to become the state of supply-chain excellence and the gateway of choice.
A key strategy of the Victorian Transport, Distribution and Logistics Industry Action Plan is to strengthen the industry’s training framework. Based at Kangan Batman TAFE’s Broadmeadows campus, the Transport and Logistics Centre will assist in this aim by offering a comprehensive, integrated service.
Covering 1400 square metres, the centre features a heavy vehicle driving range, mini warehouse, loading dock and overhead crane. More than 1000 students are enrolled in classes at the centre. Many driving schools also use the facility for training purposes.
The centre provides training for all areas of the transport and logistics industry, including warehousing, dock-loading, forklift driving, computer training, dangerous goods and confined space training, crane and elevating work platform operation, dogging, training in motor vehicle driver instruction, taxi and heavy vehicle licence testing.
This is part of Kangan Batman TAFE’s commitment to supporting Victorian’s broader transport systems and associated manufacturing and service sectors.
As well as training tomorrow’s supply chain management personnel, the centre is also a place for ongoing practical learning for today’s industry leaders, as a venue for seminars, conferences, trade shows and machinery demonstrations.
Kangan Batman TAFE is Victoria’s major training provider of safe driver training major training provider for the automotive and aerospace industries, and highly regarded for its transport, logistics and manufacturing training.
Kangan Batman TAFE is also a key stakeholder and investor in Melbourne’s Northern Metropolitan Region NORTH Link and Northern Industry and Training Link (NIETL) initiatives.
