Urban Glamour Fashion Parade

26 November 2003

Need some ideas for after-work glam for all those Christmas parties? Then come along to the Urban Glamour night in Parkville on Tuesday 9 December.

The Urban Glamour Parade will showcase garments designed and made by 2nd year students from Kangan Batman TAFE’s Diploma of Textiles, Clothing and Footwear.

The event has been sponsored by the Silvana Fashion House (703 Sydney Road, Brunswick). The company challenged the students to create a sophisticated and stylish wardrobe, comprising three complete three-piece outfits in the categories of Tailoring, Daywear and Eveningwear.

The condition was that the outfits were to be fully interchangeable (able to be ‘mixed and matched’) to create different looks, allowing the wearer to easily change from tailored day-time professional to night-time glamourpuss.

Silvana Fashion House is providing prizes for the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each of the competition’s categories, along with two-weeks’ work experience for the 1st place-getters. Some of the students’ designs will also be selected to be part of the company’s next range.

Aside from creating their designs and garments, the students have also organised the modelling and choreography of the fashion parade.

The event is open to the public and the fashion industry. Tickets are $25. There will also be giveaways and sample bags on the night.

For tickets to the Urban Glamour Parade, please contact Poni Poselli at the Silvana Fashion House on 9355 8759 or Jacq Moore at Kangan Batman TAFE on 9279 2418 or 0418 179 435.

In other fashion news, work is soon to commence on the new Fashion Industry Training Centre Kangan Batman TAFE is building at its Richmond campus. The centre is due to open at the beginning of 2005 and will house the institute’s fashion school, which is currently based at its Broadmeadows campus. Kangan Batman TAFE has received $3.5 million in State Government funding for the new centre.

According to Mandy Penton, Manager of Kangan Batman’s Fashion Studies Department, the new centre will consist of a heritage-listed building which will be fully refurbished and linked to a new building by a glass walkway and atrium.

“The atrium will house a in-built catwalk for displaying our students’ work and for holding fashion shows. It will be like a showpiece for the fashion industry,” Ms Penton said.
