Kangan Batman TAFE Security Management student Gavin Nelmes, from Kealba, is an inaugural winner of the national Pursuit of Excellence Awards being held in Sydney on 29 April.
The Pursuit of Excellence Awards are an initiative of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and will be presented during their 2004 international conference. ASIS are the leading security association in the world and have two chapters in Australia.
Top students studying security courses at universities and technical colleges around Australia will be rewarded for their academic excellence at a dinner to be held at the Harbourside Room at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
Gavin, 37, was nominated by his teachers in the Diploma of Security Management section as their top student and entered in the awards. “Gavin is a steady performer who receives top marks and is always up to date with his work,” said Kangan Batman TAFE teacher, Phillip Wright.
Gavin works as a manager at Advent Security in Thomastown and undertook the course to further his knowledge and education in the field. He was surprised when told of his win and is looking forward to attending the award presentation at the end of April.
The best students from a range of courses will receive their awards from former Wallaby Captain, Nick Farr-Jones. Nick led Australia’s world champion Rugby Union team to victory over England in the 1991 World Cup Final, capping an outstanding ten year sporting career which included more than 60 Test matches. As part of the event Mr Farr- Jones will speak to students and guests on the importance of striving to achieve your best.
