Chinese teachers go trackside for motorsport experience

9 September 2004

A group of 23 Chinese teachers on a four week visit to Kangan Batman TAFE are getting a trackside experience of motorsport tomorrow at Sandown Racecourse.

The teachers from the Jiangsu province in China (Shanghai is the capital city), are here to observe how Kangan Batman TAFE run and deliver programs to their students and have been given the opportunity to see motorsport up close.

Whittlesea Secondary College managed to secure tickets for the teachers. The college has a close relationship with Kangan Batman TAFE with VET in Schools programs.

The teachers will be bussed to the event by Kangan Batman TAFE and will be accompanied by teachers from the automotive and aviation and engineering departments along with a translator from International Projects at Kangan Batman.

They have been sponsored by the Jiangsu State Education Commission to come to Australia to undergo a TAFE immersion/skills upgrading program to learn about state-of-the art TAFE delivery methods and competency training in E-Business and Automotive studies.

These teachers come from various vocational and technical colleges in the Jiangsu province and they are here to learn about the various aspects of TAFE programs, training packages, competency training and the standards of the Australian Quality Training Framework that registered training organisations comply with.

The training program is part of a larger, long-term teachers skills upgrading program being undertaken by the Jiangsu State Education for the next five years. Training providers and universities in several western countries such as the UK and the USA have been invited to bid for this training. Kangan Batman was one of the first two Australian institutions to win two of this year's tenders.

Winning this tender reflects the Jiangsu State Education endorsement of Kangan Batman's successful extended campus operations with a partner institution in Nantong in the Jiangsu province.

The teachers have been here for almost three weeks now and they have been on a very intensive training and site visit programs.
