Kangan Batman delivers training to defence forces
6 December 2004
A Memorandum of Understanding developed in partnership with Defence Education Training and Development (ETD) Southern Victoria and Kangan Batman TAFE was signed today at a ceremony at Kangan Batman's Broadmeadows campus.
Whilst not an exclusive agreement, the partnership will recognise work skills and competencies of serving military personnel and public servants working with the Defence Forces aligning to the qualifications of the Public Service Training Package.
Kangan Batman staff will assess the candidates, through a formal Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) process, then develop and deliver a training course to address gaps. The project is overseen by Kangan Batman's Finance, Management and Marketing Department.
"We are pleased to enter into this agreement with the Australian Defence Forces for delivery of training services, following on from our existing successful training partnership with them through ATCON," said Kangan Batman TAFE CEO Ray Griffiths.
"This agreement is a logical progression as Kangan Batman is currently delivering training to Defence force personnel under the current Standing Offer won by the ATCON national consortium."
ATCON, the Australian TAFE Consortium, was successful in winning a tender from the Department of Defence when 12 ATCON members, including Kangan Batman TAFE, joined forces to develop training under the Public Services Training Package. Defence was seeking a training provider, able to deliver face-to-face training to civilian and military personnel, across Australia.
ATCON was awarded the two-year contract, with provision for extending for a further two years, with training starting in February 2004. Kangan Batman is the lead TAFE and principal contact point for the Defence Force's Victorian Southern Region, with the project being managed by Julie Clifford, Industry Training Consultant at Kangan Batman TAFE.
"Currently our training for the Defence Forces is focused on key areas of leadership, efficient administration, communication and negotiation, as well as legislated requirements such as OH&S awareness and ethics," Mr Griffiths said. "This MOU will give both parties scope to expand our training offerings in the future."
The Memorandum was signed by Ray Griffiths for the Institute, and Lieutenant Colonel Barbara Jenkins for the Defence Forces. Witnesses to the signing were Shirley Kukk, Carmel McCarthy, Bruce Bradfield Christine Fyfe, and Julie Clifford for Kangan Batman, and Defence Force representatives Gary Durrant, Senior Training Advisor and internal auditor, Mick Lalor, Learning and Development Services Education Training and Development Unit, Southern Victoria.
