Ticket to the Travel Industry

Kangan Batman TAFE is offering a new course for those interested in studying part-time for a career in the travel industry.
Held at the Essendon campus, the course takes four units from the Certificate IV in Tourism Operations which will provide entry level skills for airline sales or skills needed to work as an international travel consultant.
The subjects on offer give practical skills training in airline fares and ticketing and the airline automated reservations system, Galileo. Students will also do a flexible unit where they will study some important destinations around the world. This unit will be undertaken through the use of a workbook at home and students may liaise with a teacher by email.
Many graduates from the travel and tourism courses at Kangan Batman TAFE are successful in gaining employment with a range of companies, such as QANTAS Airlines, Virgin Blue and a range of travel agencies.
Students may later apply to study in the full time Certificate IV in Tourism or the Advanced Diploma of Tourism and will be gain credit for the units already completed.
The course will run on a Tuesday and Wednesday night from 5.30-9.30 for six months. It starts on 12 July and finishes on 26 November. The course is run by the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Department with teachers from a range of professional positions within the industry.
Prospective students need to attend an information session and pre-selection test on Tuesday 21 June at the Essendon campus. All applicants are required to bring a pen and calculator to the pre-selection test. The session will commence at 5.30pm and the duration will be approximately one hour.
The course will run over 240 hours and will cost $367 for full fee paying students and $76 for concession card holders. There will be an additional fee for materials.
