Indigenous performers Kutcha Edwards and Dave Arden to headline Winberri Music Festival
19 July 2005
After the success of last year’s sold-out event, Kangan Batman TAFE’s Hospitality, Travel and Tourism and Koori Program Unit students will again host the Winberri Music Festival on Saturday 6 August.
Renowned Indigenous performers Kutcha Edwards and Dave Arden will headline the event, which is to be held at the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Centre at the Broadmeadows campus.
Kutcha, a member of the ‘Stolen Generation,’ is an artist who shares his own ‘journey of healing’ through his songs. He was named as the NAIDOC Indigenous Person of the Year in 2001-2002 and awarded the Deadly Vibes Male Artist of the Year Award in 2001. Both Kutcha and Dave will be supported by Kangan Batman TAFE’s own Koori Programs Band.
The Winberri Music Festival, named in honour of Gunung-Willam-Balluk elder, Winberri, is held in conjunction with the Hume City Council, and is part of the 2005 Hume Winter Music Festival.
Hospitality, Travel and Tourism teacher and Function Coordinator, Karen Burgmann, is confident the 2005 Winberri Music Festival will be as successful as last year’s event.
'The Winberri Music Festival is a great opportunity for our students to put their hard work and training to the test,’ she says.
'We have a great bunch of students this year, and I know they're all looking forward to putting on this event.'
The Events Management and Hospitality, Travel and Tourism students will be involved in all aspects of the Winberri Music Festival. They are responsible for promotion, set-up, registration, ushering, and food and beverage service.
Chef Darryl Selzer and the Hospitality and Cookery students will prepare a delicious three-course ‘Bush Tucker’ dinner.
The event will cater for up to 100 guests, and while there are still a limited number of seats available, tickets are selling quickly.
The three course meal and show costs $30 per head. Tickets must be pre-booked and pre-paid. Alternatively, a limited number of door tickets will be available from 8pm for Kutcha Edwards and Dave Arden’s performance.
