Inaugural Australian Vocational Student Prizes Awarded
21 December 2005
Seven Kangan Batman TAFE VET students have more than just the end of their VCE studies to celebrate, having been among a handful of Victorians to win an inaugural Australian Vocational Student Prize.
The Australian Vocational Student Prize was established and awarded for the first time in 2005 to encourage and recognise outstanding senior secondary students undertaking a Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) programme or School-based New Apprenticeship (SBNA).
The Year 12 students, who were undertaking VET studies in a range of disciplines, will each be recognised for their achievements with a cash prize of $2000 and a certificate.
‘The number of student awards won demonstrates our strong partnerships with secondary schools, commitment to providing vocational education and opening up career options to youth,’ said Peter Harrison, Manager of the Post Compulsory Education Pathways Department, which deals specifically with 15-19 year olds.
Secondary schools, ranging from Aitken College, Whittlesea Secondary College, Mowbray College and Croxton, nominated one student for each of the VET and SBNA categories for this award.
Up to 450 prizes were awarded to the most outstanding Vocational Education and Training in Schools students and 50 prizes were awarded to the most outstanding School-based New Apprentices across Australia.
Kangan Batman TAFE would like to congratulate all the students who won a prize:
