Celebrate Harmony Day
16 March 2007
Kangan Batman TAFE will join the rest of Australia and celebrate Harmony Day on March 21, 2007. This is a national day that provides us with an opportunity to celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse society, re-commit ourselves to harmony and say 'no' to racism.
An arch of orange balloons will provide a striking backdrop for the day's events. Community Development students will present a quilt they have made with affirmation messages regarding a harmonious Australia, local Moreland band A.R.A.B (Anti Racist Action Band) will perform, a roving balloonist will be in attendance and there will be a free barbecue for students and staff.
There will also be a group photo under the arch of orange balloons for everyone to be involved in at 1130 am and flags from all over the world will fly to signify the diversity and unity that makes Australia great.
This event has been organised by KITSA, the Institute's student association and Event Management students. Gianna Natarelli the Student Association Officer says that as one of Victoria's most diverse TAFE Institute's, staff and students at Kangan Batman TAFE will appreciate the message of diversity and respect for Australians of all cultural backgrounds.
"Harmony Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate unity as well as uniqueness. The messages of respect and tolerance are values we should take with us all year round and Harmony Day is a wonderful reminder of this," Ms Natarelli said.
