Kangan Batman TAFE takes out Premier's Sustainability Award

27 April 2007

Kangan Batman TAFE was awarded the 2007 Premier's Sustainability Award for Public Sector Excellence for its new Docklands campus on Wednesday 18 April 2007. It was hosted by Sustainability Victoria at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention centre.

The Premier's Sustainability Awards recognise and promote Victorian businesses, communities and individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership and contribute to a more sustainable future for the State. The awards were attended by Premier Steve Bracks and the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, John Thwaites.

Kangan Batman TAFE has been acknowledged for the innovative and environmentally sustainable design of the Automotive Centre of Excellence building at Docklands. This state-of-the-art building already has a five star green star rating, because of its systems in place to reduce office greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption. Kangan Batman TAFE was also praised for being the first educational organisation to have established a Sustainability Covenant with the EPA.

'Our commitment to environmental sustainability is one of the many things that differentiate Kangan Batman TAFE from other TAFE institutes and my staff and I share a great sense of satisfaction in seeing our commitment recognised by Premier Bracks and the State government,' Ray Griffiths, CEO of Kangan Batman TAFE said.

This award represents the highest level of state recognition and Kangan Batman TAFE will continue to strive for excellence in the areas of sustainability and innovation.
