Students Blitz Victorian Fashion Awards
7 June 2007
Kangan Batman TAFE students dominated the TAFE category in the 2007 Paintright Victorian Fashion Awards on Friday May 25, collecting six places across the Recycled Wearable Art, Racewear/Business Wear and Long Gown categories.
Held at the Wyndham Leisure Centre, the distinctive event celebrates a collection of original creative designs and is open to all secondary and TAFE students as well as open designers in Victoria.
One of the Institute's most successful fashion students, Tracey Osborne, from Cherokee (Macedon Ranges), picked up three awards, including first prize in the Recycled Wearable art category for a dress made out of shower curtains. Tracey also won a TAFE Special Achiever Award to acknowledge her ongoing involvement and achievements in the Victorian Fashion Awards.
Tracey's no stranger to winning, having won many awards in events such as Fashion International, the Australian Young Designer Wool Awards and The Australian Wool Fashion Awards.
'I'm really excited about the three awards! I entered five outfits, so this was a great night for me,' said Tracey. 'I've already spent the prize money buying material for another competition- the upcoming Masters of Fashion in July.'
The Fashion and Retail department congratulates these student winners in the Paintright Victorian Fashion Awards.

Kangan Batman TAFE's fashion area will eventually transfer to a $4.6 million Fashion Industry Training Centre in Richmond. To be unveiled at the end of 2007, the state government funded facility will feature garment construction rooms which simulate industry workrooms, manual pattern-making facilities, a catwalk (ideal for showcasing students' work) a number of training and theory classrooms, millinery facilities and an impressive retail training centre, as well as shop front windows and displays.
This new Centre will closely with industry to ensure students receive an excellent understanding of the design to market process. By partnering with the fashion industry, the Centre aims to produce highly-skilled graduates to keep Australia's fashion industry competitive.
