Kangan Batman TAFE teacher wins Inspiring Teacher Scholarship
21 June 2007
Kangan Batman TAFE teacher Renus Burke has been awarded the 2007 Hume Inspiring Teacher Scholarship in the category of trainer, teacher or coach.
Renus has been a teacher with Kangan Batman TAFE for more than twenty years and during that time she has developed a real passion for working with mature age students and helping them return to study.
'The most rewarding my part of my work is when we are successful in giving our students the necessary self confidence and self esteem to complete their course and get a job,' Renus said.
Renus is currently developing a learning discovery conference for people who live in the Hume area. The conference is designed to showcase the befits of returning to study for mature age students as well as sharing success stories and giving helpful information on the transition involved in getting back into formal learning.
'I feel that there are many people in our community who lack the self confidence to return to study especially if they have been retrenched or have been out of the workforce for a long time. Hopefully we will be able to inspire them to make the right choices and build their self-esteem,' Renus said.
The Hume Inspiring Teachers Scholarships are designed to reward the talents of creative innovative and inspiring teachers in the Hume area. The scholarship is designed to enable the winning teachers to learn about new models, ideas and approaches to learning.
