Electrical Apprentice Reaches Finals of State Training Awards
22 August 2007
John Rist
Kangan Batman TAFE graduate, John Rist, reached the finals of the 2007 Victorian Training Awards Outstanding Student of the Year (Apprentice) category on Monday 20 August.
Minister for Skills, Education Services and Employment, Jacinta Allan, MP, presented John with $500 and a certificate in front of 850 people at Crown Palladium.
Despite missing out on the top award, the twenty-two year old Sunbury resident felt he was 'already a winner'.
Kangan Batman TAFE CEO Ray Griffiths commended John on his achievements.
'John is an extremely dedicated individual who is already a true ambassador for the vocational training system,' said Mr Griffiths. 'To be chosen as one of four finalists among thousands of students in a tough competition is a fantastic achievement in itself.'
John is no stranger to success. Apart from taking out Kangan Batman TAFE's Student and Apprentice of the Year awards among 27,000 other students, John also won the 2006 Australian Industrial Electrical Apprentice of the year at the National Electrical and Communications Association awards.
John will now focus on completing an Advanced Diploma in Electrical, in preparation for a degree in electrical engineering.
