Kangan Batman TAFE Awarded for VET in Schools Excellence
22 August 2007
Victoria's newly crowned number one TAFE, Kangan Batman, and Whittlesea Secondary College have jointly won the 2007 Victorian Training Awards' VET in Schools Excellence accolade on Monday 20 August.
The Minister for Skills, Education Services and Employment, Jacinta Allan, MP, presented the award to Whittlesea Secondary College Principal, Avril Salter, at Crown Palladium.
Whittlesea Secondary College, in partnership with Kangan Batman TAFE, offers 18 programs for students principally in Years 10-12 who are interested in the sciences, arts, technologies, humanities and recreational pursuits.
In 2007, 673 students, representing more than half the school's students, enrolled in VET programs, gaining skills and competencies and working towards certificate completions.
Kangan Batman TAFE CEO Ray Griffiths said the partnership is so successful because of the strategic vision alignment with the TAFE and the secondary college.
'Whittlesea Secondary College and Kangan Batman TAFE are on the "same page" when it comes to providing a range vocational outcomes for young people,' said Mr Griffiths.
Kangan Batman TAFE is the largest provider of VET in Schools programs in Victoria, and the only Victorian TAFE to track outcomes for 15-19 year old students.
'Our activities are driven by recognition that leverage our partnerships with around 200 schools and thousands of employers to provide optimal pathways,' said Mr Griffiths.
Kangan Batman TAFE and Whittlesea Secondary College now automatically qualify for the VET in Schools category in the Australian Training Awards, to be held on 8 November 2007 in Tasmania.
