Walk-a-thon to Support Timor-Leste
21 September 2007
Step into some comfy sneakers, get fit and join Kangan Batman TAFE staff and students for an inaugural fundraising walk-a-thon on Sunday 28 October 2007.
Starting from 10am, this five-kilometre round trip around West Meadows Reserve, Westmeadows, will raise money for educational programs, and social and physical reconstruction projects in Aileu, Timor Leste.
Registration, which costs $5 per person, or $10 for a family (2 adults and 2 children), includes a sausage sizzle lunch at 1pm (the walk-a-thon's conclusion).
All proceeds from the walk-a-thon will go to the Friends of Aileu a friendship agreement between Kangan Batman TAFE, the Moreland and Hume City Councils and the District of Aileu in Timor-Leste.
'This will be a fantastic and fun event for a worthwhile cause! Proceeds from the event will support critical projects in Timor-Leste,' said Carmel McCarthy, Kangan Batman TAFE's General Manager of Community Engagement. 'So I encourage everyone to get behind this cause, and have a fun day with friends and family.'
Participants are encouraged to raise as much money for the Friends of Aileu by obtaining additional sponsorship for their walk. Tax deductible receipts are available for donations of $2 and over. Participants are encouraged to bring their sponsorship form (available at www.kangan.edu.au/about/corporate/community) and money on the day.
Can't make it on the day? Donations are welcome through Kangan Batman TAFE's 24-hour online donations facility, accessible at www.ourcommunity.com.au/kanganbatmanwalkathon
