Product Design Manufacturing Challenge winners announced

10 October 2007

October 29 2007 will see representatives from various sectors of design, manufacturing and education come together and celebrate the final stage in the inaugural 'Product Design Manufacturing Challenge'.

Hosted by Kangan Batman TAFE the project involved five local secondary schools, Kangan Batman TAFE VCAL group and a number of industry and community organisations. The innovative and collaborative project engaged students by giving them the opportunity to design and prototype any product they could think of and follow the project from start to finish.

The results are sure to impress and all of the products that were designed using the latest and best technology will be on display at the expo on October 29. Not only will the products be displayed they will also be judged with the winner of the challenge announced on the day.

Maria Vamvakinou, the Federal member for Calwell, will attend the expo and address the students, community and industry partners.

This project has been made possible by funding received as part of the Australian School Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics Project funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training as a part of the Boosting Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics Teaching (BISTMT) Programme. While this is the inaugural Challenge it will be an ongoing project.

Local schools involved were Penola Catholic College, Roxburgh Secondary College, Whittlesea Secondary College, St Bernard's Catholic College, Sunbury Downs Secondary School and Kangan Batman TAFE. Industry partners included ARRK, Invetech and the Manufacturing and Engineering Skills Advisory Board, RMIT and the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network, the Victorian Government's 'Its your future campaign' and Webex have also supported the project.
