The Best Automotive Teacher in Australia
7 November 2007
Livio Tomas, Kangan Batman TAFE automotive refinishing teacher, has been named the best automotive teacher in Australia by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence.
These national awards aim to acknowledge and reward excellence in trade skills teaching. Winners of the award receive $10,000.
As the head of the vehicle refinishing department Livio is well known around the Institute. His work in the design the Automotive Centre of Excellence's vehicle refinishing area, his whole hearted commitment to students and his always positive attitude has made Livio one of Kangan Batman TAFE's most popular staff members.
Livio plans to use his prize money to set up a special fund for disadvantaged or marginalised students to support them and help them achieve their career aspirations.
While this award has everyone at Kangan Batman TAFE talking, Livio remains modest and says he is honoured by the award but gets the most satisfaction from seeing his students succeed.
'Winning this award means a lot to me but nothing surpasses seeing students start the course with nothing, and finishing with a full-confidence in themselves. It's my personal challenge to help these individuals grow and make a difference in the automotive industry,' Livio said.
