Premier Facility Wins Gold Stars in Training Excellence

With a rating of three out of a possible three Gold Stars, Kangan Batman TAFE's Automotive Centre of Excellence is the first automotive training facility awarded the highest accolade under the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence's Star Rating System.

The Gold Star rating was awarded on Wednesday 14 November 2007, after an Institute for Trades Skills Excellence industry panel evaluated the Automotive Centre of Excellence.

Kangan Batman TAFE CEO, Ray Griffiths, said ‘we are extremely proud to be the first educational institute granted recognition in these trades from the Institute of Trade Skills Excellence.

‘The stars are not only a testament to the quality and relevance of vocational and technical training in vehicle body trades at the Automotive Centre of Excellence at Docklands, but also to the efforts, professionalism and dedication of our teaching staff.'

The Automotive Centre of Excellence now qualifies for a listing on ITSE's honour roll.

The ITSE recognition adds to the impressive list of awards for the Automotive Centre of Excellence. Australia's 2007 Automotive Trade Teacher of the Year, Livio Tomas, is based at the facility. Automotive Centre of Excellence apprentice vehicle painter, Stuart Aisbett, recently brought home silver for Australia in the 2007 international skills Olympics, WorldSkills.

The facility has also won a total of eight prestigious environmental awards for its state-of-the-art sustainable design features.
