Scania presents Kangan Batman TAFE with one of a kind engine

4 August 2008

On August 6, 2008, staff from Kangan Batman TAFE and Scania Australia will meet for the official handover of a one of a kind engine.

Scania Australia is a leader in the Australian Transport Industry and will be presenting Kangan Batman TAFE's Heavy Vehicles Department with a $140,000 engine that is the only one if it's kind in the world. It is the only complete Scania engine that is fully operational and not contained in a truck. This allows students to work on it and observe it. Kangan Batman TAFE paid $90,000 for the engine with Scania Australia generously covering the rest of the cost.

Kangan Batman TAFE's Emile Farag, manager of the Institute's Heavy Vehicles Department said the engine would be a welcome addition to the Institute's existing state of the art equipment.

"We are thrilled at the generosity of Scania and I know that our students will benefit greatly from having this engine to work on," Mr Farag said.

Kangan batman TAFE CEO, Ray Griffiths said this was another example of the TAFE being a leader in establishing strong links with industry.

"The Institute is always striving to work closely with industry and this is another great example of that. Kangan batman TAFE recognises the importance of providing the vital link between industry and a skilled work force, and with equipment like this our students are sure to be well positioned in a competitive employment market," Mr Griffiths said.
