Moving closer to reconciliation - The Fourth Annual Ningulabul Reconciliation Lunch

6 June 2008

Kangan Batman TAFE's articulation agreement with La Trobe University has garnered great outcomes for students, Kangan Batman TAFE and La Trobe University. Some of the students who took advantage of the agreement met with staff from both Institute's last week to talk about transitions, adjusting to university life and the exciting options that lay ahead.

The articulation agreement between Kangan Batman TAFE and La Trobe University allows students who study Information Technology courses with Kangan Batman TAFE to apply directly to the University and enter at a second year level with the equivalent of 125 credit points.

'This agreement has a number of great benefits for students. For people who may not have received the enter score they needed or didn't do the right pre-requisite subjects at High School, TAFE is a great pathway straight into a well respected university degree,' Rao Diwakar, Manager of Information Communication Technology, said.

Without this agreement students would have to apply for their course and negotiate entry and recognition of prior learning for themselves.

Some of the great stories to come out of this agreement include Mohamed Mursal. Originally from Somalia, Mohamed moved to Egypt and then Australia. He originally studied English at Kangan Batman TAFE and then he progressed into a Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) with the TAFE. On successful completion of this Mohamed took advantage of the articulation agreement and went straight into the second year of a bachelor of Information Systems.

Other students like Daniel Makowski and Timothy Hair studied at Kangan Batman TAFE and have also successfully entered the Bachelor of Information Systems at La Trobe University. These students are now looking forward to finishing their course and undertaking a career in Information Systems and computer games design.
