Archie Roach headlines Winberri Music Festival

1 July 2008

One of Australia's most loved and respected singer/ songwriters, Archie Roach, will headline Kangan Batman TAFE and the Hume City Council's 2008 Winberri Music Festival.

Archie Roach has won two ARIA Awards as well as a Human Rights Achievement Award. The Human Rights Achievement was given in recognition for his song 'Took the Children Away' and he was the first songwriter to ever receive such an accolade. Archie Roach has released five albums and is one of the country's most prolific Indigenous voices.

The Winberri Music Festival will be held at Kangan Batman TAFE's Broadmeadows campus at the Gunung Willam Balluk Centre on Saturday August 2, 2008.

Kangan Batman TAFE's students will be staffing the event and putting all of the skills they have learnt through their studies into running a fantastic and inspired event.

Guests will also be treated to a three course bush tucker dinner. Students from Kangan Batman TAFE's Indigenous Education Centre will perform before Archie Roach takes centre stage.

Function Co-ordinator, Karen Burgmann said she was looking forward to the event as it continues to get bigger and better every year.

"This is a great event and we are thrilled to have Archie Roach performing. I encourage people to get in early as dinner numbers are limited," Karen said.
