Millinery Soiree - An Evening of Elegance

Millinery Soiree 2008
Just five months after it was officially opened, Kangan Batman TAFE's Centre of Fashion @ Richmond has already firmly established itself as part of Melbourne's fashion scene.
This reputation is set to grow in October as the Centre of Fashion hosts the Millinery Soiree - an event guaranteed to attract the city's style-conscious fashionistas who have a keen eye for quality and detail. The evening provides an opportunity to buy stylish hats from up-and-coming milliners for the Spring Racing Carnival season.
Centre of Fashion manager Odile Higgins says the first-time exhibition event will showcase a wide range of millinery styles and provide an opportunity for guests to mingle with the millinery masters at Kangan Batman TAFE. The inaugural event will showcase a colourful display of quality student works in the Centre of Fashion's recently completed facility.
"We're very proud of the talented artisans we have studying here at Kangan Batman TAFE, so the Millinery Soiree is an opportunity for the Institute to really show off and celebrate our exceptional students and highly qualified millinery training staff," she says.
"Richard Nylon, president of the Millinery Association, will be our master of ceremonies for the evening.
"Richard - a highly accomplished milliner - will be joined by milliners and Kangan Batman TAFE teaching staff Serena Lindeman, Peter Jago, Georgina Conheady, Melissa Jackson and Sandy Buchanan, who have all established themselves as highly regarded and talented milliners in the fashion industry."
Ms Higgins says the Millinery Soiree is a great opportunity for potential students and industry partners to take a tour through the facility and discuss what courses are available.
"We aim to attract those who are not only interested in making millinery a serious hobby but seek it as their career of choice," she says.
"Kangan Batman TAFE's Centre of Fashion @ Richmond is one of the few places in Australia where the nationally-accredited Certificate II to Certificate IV courses are delivered.
"Full-time courses are two days per week and are very affordable as they are government subsidised."
The Centre of Fashion Millinery Soiree will be held on October 10, 2008, from 6.30 to 9pm. Drinks and canapés will be included in the $25 entry fee.
