Representatives from the design, manufacturing and education sectors will come together this October to celebrate the final stage of the 2008 Product Design Manufacturing Challenge expo.
The day-long event will be held on Monday October 27, at the Hume Global Learning Centre from 9am.
Hosted by Kangan Batman TAFE, the Product Design Manufacturing Challenge involves five local secondary schools and a number of industry and community organisations.
Kangan Batman TAFE project leader Gail Bray says the innovative and collaborative project matches students with industry partners.
"The students work from a design brief provided by their industry partner and they then work with expert industrial design consultants to design and prototype their product," she says.
"The objective of the project is to expose students to a variety of careers available to them in the design, engineering and manufacturing sectors."
Visitors to the Product Design Manufacturing Challenge expo will be impressed by the hard work of the students involved and have the opportunity to see the overall project winner announced.
Judges who represent various sectors of the industry will attend and announce the winners.
"Following on from the fantastic inaugural event last year, this project is funded by Kangan Batman TAFE and the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development," Gail says.
Local schools involved are Penola Catholic College, Roxburgh Secondary College, Whittlesea Secondary College, St Bernard's Catholic College, and Sunbury Downs Secondary SchooI. Industry partners include ARRK, Invetech, Autoliv, APS Plastics, Sutton Tools and the Careers in Manufacturing program.
