Pedal your way to a diploma

22 June 2009

New Kangan Batman TAFE diploma and advanced diploma students will get a ticket to ride, with the Institute's latest campaign to promote higher-level TAFE qualifications.

Kangan Batman TAFE marketing manager John Popa says the first 50 students to enrol and stay on track for either a diploma or advanced diploma will receive a free bike.

"A new era of vocational education and training is about to hit Victoria, with the state government's new skills reform initiatives. Kangan Batman TAFE is gearing up to rise to the challenge by attracting new students with the current bike campaign," he said.

"The whole aim of the campaign is to promote an environmentally-friendly way to get to school, student health and cost-saving travel. It not only reflects the Institute's sustainable approach to the way we work and learn, but is a great way to encourage our students to engage in some fun physical activity."

The free bike promotion is available to the first 50 students to enrol in either a diploma or advanced diploma across Kangan Batman TAFE's range of courses and departments. The offer will run from June 13 to August 31, 2009 (conditions apply).

Courses range from diplomas in business administration and multimedia, to community development and logistics.

"With our new Skills Recognition process which acknowledges prior life and work experience, some students applying for a diploma or advanced diploma could even automatically gain credits towards their studies," John said.

"There's quite a bit happening in the TAFE sector at the moment with various government initiatives and financial incentives, and many ways we can help students or existing workers up-skill, re-skill or gain recognition for experience.

"I'd encourage anyone interested in finding out how they can take advantage of all these initiatives to either call our contact centre on 13 TAFE or visiting the website for more information."

'I come from a hands-on family and I didn't feel that school was equipping me with all the things I needed. I looked at my options and decided that this course at Kangan Institute was right for me.'
