Greg proves a worthy winner

Greg Arthur's career in the caravan and recreational vehicle industry hit a high point this month when he was named as trainee of the year at the annual Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) Awards of Excellence.

The Kangan Batman TAFE student has just completed his Certificate III in Recreational Servicing with Boolaroo-based business 7th Street Caravans, studying his traineeship through flexible e-learning.

More than 200 guests attended the annual awards gala dinner where Greg received his award along with a range of other winners.

Barry Baillie, CEO of the CCIA said the awards evening is a prestigious annual event for the industry which recognises caravan and holiday parks, manufactured home villages and estates, caravan and RV manufacturers and dealers as well as industry suppliers for business excellence.

Kangan Batman TAFE teacher Vince Panozzo said Greg's dedication to perfecting his trade and learning about all the aspects of the caravan industry made him a worthy winner of the award.

"Greg is one of the most committed, engaged students I've met," he said.

"He's got the motivation to get ahead in his career and approached his study in the same way - generally the Certificate III takes around 18 months to complete, but Greg successfully completed the course in just nine months."

Greg's employer Maree Saggers echoes these sentiments. She's watched Greg's personal and professional development throughout his traineeship and said the Certificate III course has helped him really get ahead.

"The training suited Greg to a tee. He's a very driven individual, highly motivated and works well by himself, so the flexible learning was perfect," she said.

"It took him into areas he hadn't previously thought of - like the business side of the industry rather than just the servicing side. He used to set aside Tuesday nights to complete his theoretical requirements, and every Wednesday morning without fail, he'd seek me out at work and ask questions about how what he'd learnt related to our business.

"It was great to watch him approach his study with such enthusiasm. He's definitely a star employee - I see a great future ahead for him."

Kangan Batman TAFE's Certificate III in Recreational Servicing flexible e-learning course is delivered in partnership with the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia.
