New era for Kangan Institute
19 February 2010
A new decade brings a new name and logo for what was formerly known as Kangan Batman TAFE.
More than 150 industry guests and representatives were treated to a spectacular launch - complete with acrobatics - of the new Kangan Institute name, logo and brand on Thursday February 18 at Eureka Tower.
The event, which featured a keynote speech by master of ceremonies and Academy award winner Adam Elliot, was the culmination of months of research, development and design.
Kangan Institute CEO Mr Ray Griffiths said the event signalled a new era for the organisation.
"For the past 85 years we've provided a flexible, innovative and friendly place of learning, attracting more than 40,000 enrolments each year from Victorian, Australian and international students," he said.
"Although we've been known as Kangan Batman TAFE for the past ten or so years, our history stretches back much further than that.
"Our seed was planted in 1925 with the establishment of the Richmond Technical School."
From these beginnings - an organisation set up to deliver mechanics training as part of the post-Depression Youth Employment Scheme - Kangan Institute has grown and developed into one of the state's leading TAFE providers.
For two years in a row now, the Institute has maintained its dominance as the number one Victorian TAFE for converting unemployed students to employment upon study completion.
With eight campuses in northern and metro Melbourne, the organisation attracted more than 40,000 enrolments last year from students seeking practical, accredited training.
Ray said the new brand and logo is a visual representation of this transformation.
"The new brand reflects Kangan Institute's continued transformation towards being a vibrant professional services organisation, leading in customised learning products and services and establishing itself as a first choice for customers in target markets," he said.
"We are very excited to be unveiling our new look - a look which consolidates the success of the past and leads us into a new era of growth, achievement and innovation."
