Plugging into the information super highway is now that much easier for 21 lucky Kangan Institute students - all now proud owners of brand new Compaq Presario laptops.

Institute marketing manager John Popa said the laptop giveaway was part of a very successful enrolment campaign at the start of 2010.

"All new students who enrolled with us in a diploma or advanced diploma qualification during the course of the campaign were eligible to enter the competition - that amounted to more than 800 students vying for a prize," he said.

"This competition really highlights how fast the learning environment is changing and becoming more technologically advanced - and what better way to support new students than with a high-tech learning device?"

The prize-winning students represented a diverse selection of the Institute's training departments, including visual merchandising, language studies, aviation, nursing, massage and fashion.

As one of the state's leading vocational education and training organisations, Kangan Institute continues to explore new ways to engage and support students.

The Victorian government's Skills Reform initiative which was implemented last year has changed the way the TAFE system operates and, John said, offered a great opportunity to assess Kangan Institute's processes and services.

"With more than 250 nationally-accredited qualifications and a diverse range of short courses we attract more than 40,000 student enrolments each year," he said.

"Our client base is immense, and students have constantly changing needs and goals. As a public provider we have to make sure we're providing training and services which meet these needs, and our future enrolment campaigns will reflect this approach."
