Kangan Institute awards Metro employees with qualifications for the future
15 July 2011
Kangan Institute, together with Metro and the University of Ballarat have congratulated a range of Metro employees for their efforts during the past year at a graduation ceremony held on June 30, 2011.
Last year, Kangan Institute was proud to enter into an exciting arrangement with Metro. At the time, Metro was the new operator of Melbourne's rail network and approached us to assist in the delivery of their extensive training and assessment needs.
Together, we sought to provide training and assessment to students in a range of areas within the industry, as part of a pilot program.
This has involved an extensive team effort on Kangan's part, with the involvement of various departments including Enterprise Solutions, Employment Services, the Centre for Business and the Centre for Education and Training.
Last year, Kangan enrolled more than 1300 Metro staff. Approximately 430 trainees for various occupations, 210 enrolments in Metro's Employee Management Program and over 600 Recognition of Prior Learning assessments across the whole organisation.
Kangan Institute CEO Ray Griffiths said that the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in particular, had garnered a lot of success.
"RPL acknowledges people's current skills and knowledge - it doesn't matter where these skills have been developed, whether at work, in training or even as life experience," he said.
"RPL saves time, as students don't have to repeat anything they already know. It's a great way to officially upgrade skills and knowledge through an assessment that demonstrates their already formidable skills."
All of the graduates on the day had used this assessment method to attain a qualification that will take their career further - as well as acknowledging their experience in the process.
Qualifications awarded on the day ranged from the Certificate IV in Frontline Management to the Advanced Diploma of Management.
Metro CEO Andrew Lezala said more than $1 billion had been invested in the railway since the company took over the franchise in November 2009.
"Investing in our people and developing our people is what this company is all about," he said.
Kangan's partnership with Metro demonstrates its ability to respond innovatively to a client's needs, whatever they are.
These results also show how we are meeting our mission to provide education services that help enterprises grow and encourage individuals in reaching their full potential.
Congratulations to all the hardworking graduates. Kangan Institute hopes your qualification with us will lead you to further successful and fulfilling careers within the industry.
